“SELECT” SALE RULES
Please Note! Each of you is asked to send a photo of each of your consignments to be included in the catalog. Please be sure to get a quality photo to help the sale.
1. Entry Deadline September 1, 2009 Entry fee $100.00 per head. Entries received on or before August 15, 2009 will have a reduced rate fee of $60.00 per head, if entry form and registration papers are in possession of sales staff by August 15, 2009 The only exception on the registration papers in hand, is if breeder needs to have them for shows, then copies of the papers must accompany the entry form. Sec. Karen Yoder must receive the registration papers that are used for this purpose by 9:00 a.m. October 20, 2008. Cow/calf pair is considered one entry. Entry fees will be used to offset expenses of the sale. The sale commission will be based on sale costs as a percent of the total sales, including “No Sales”. Entry fees on cattle not showing up will be forfeited. Entries received after the first 40 lots may not be included in the sale, at the discretion of the sale committee.
2. Consignors in show/sale limited to 5 lots. Consignors interested in selling flushes, frozen embryos, etc., should contact the sale staff.
3. Steers’ sire or dam must be a Hereford, and will be sold at the end of the sale. The fee for the steers will be $25.00 each and the commission fee will be ½ the rate of the other animals. Steers will be sold by the head.
As of October 20, 2009, ages of cattle must be:
Cow/calf: Calf at side must not be over 205 days old. (Cow must not be over 5 years of age.)
Cow selling safe in calf must be pregnancy tested within 30 days of sale by an accredited veterinarian, with a statement of proof accompanying health papers.
Heifers: 180 days must be weaned.
Heifers, 18 months of age and over, must be confirmed pregnant.
Bulls:
Display Bulls may be for sale Private Treaty at the discretion of the consignor.
Display Bull entry is $50.00; if owner has no entry in the sale the fee will be $100.00.
4. Each animal in the sale must have an individual health certificate, supplied by a veterinarian dated within 25 days of the sale. These papers will be given to the sale secretary at the time of arrival. Females over 4 months must be Brucellosis vaccinated. All tattoos must be legible and agree with the registration certificates; any animal not meeting this requirement will not be in the sale. Any animal deemed unsightly by the Sale Committee will be removed immediately from the sale barn. No tattooing on grounds. 5. All females between 12-18 months must be palpated by a veterinarian and indicated pregnant or open and capable of being bred with no abnormalities found. 6. A sifting committee composed of a cattleman and a veterinarian shall determine health, soundness and quality of all cattle entered. Their decision is final. Weighting, measuring, ear tagging and sifting will be done at 9 am, Saturday October 31, 2009. Entered animals must meet the minimums for height and weight in order to sell. Sifted cattle will be removed from the barn or to a designated area. Entry fee will be forfeited on cattle sifted. Any private treaty sale must pay the commission.
7. Catalog order will be based upon return of completed entries. That includes the entry, entry fee and signed registration certificates. (Entry will be returned if registration papers are not included.)
8. Footnotes in the catalog are limited to heights, weights, EPD’s and/or breeding information. Current EPD’s from AHA as of catalog printing date will be used, and are required.
9. Consignors must be members of the Washington Hereford Association or the Columbia Empire Hereford Association. 2009 membership dues in WHA are $25.00 annually and in CEHA are $20.00 annually, choice of one must accompany entry, unless already paid.
10. The show judge, auctioneer & ringmen will set the sale order.
Substitutes will be allowed under extreme conditions (death, injury, sickness, etc.). However, supplemental sheets containing information on the substitute animals will be at the cost and obligation of the consignor. The animal substituted must be of like animal i.e. bred/bred open/open and close to the same age, they must be approved, with their papers sent in by October 1.
If you need help in the selection of your entries prior to submitting them, please contact the sale committee. After the entry deadline, members of the Sale Committee may inspect cattle on the ranch. If a nominated animal is sifted at the ranch, half the entry fee will be refunded.
With the new facilities, an area will be provided inside the Pavilion for “tie outs”, no other buildings will be used. Animals will be housed inside the Pavilion, too.
Consignors must check with Transportation Coordinator, Brian Gallagher, before leaving fairgrounds. Brian will be checking for available space for assisting in hauling purchased animals.
Good pictures of your animals are encouraged but the staff reserves the right to pull pictures that are submitted.
Advertising space in the sale catalog will be available again this year to offset cataloging expenses. The deadline for advertising will be August 15, 2009. If your ad is sent in with your entry form, it will be put with your entry listing in the catalog. Rates are: Full page $135.00 Half page $ 75.00 Quarter page $ 50.00

Animals must be free from lice and ringworm. Cattle must be presented in a manner to not detract from the sale. Animals must be broke to lead broken, with no disposition problems.
